These are the names of the men Moses sent to explore the land. (Moses gave Hoshea son of Nun the name Joshua.)

When Moses sent them to explore Canaan, he said, "Go up through the Negev and on into the hill country.

See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, few or many.

What kind of land do they live in? Is it good or bad? What kind of towns do they live in? Are they unwalled or fortified?

How is the soil? Is it fertile or poor? Are there trees on it or not? Do your best to bring back some of the fruit of the land." (It was the season for the first ripe grapes.)

이에 그들이 올라 가서 땅을 探知(탐지)하되 ^ㅗ신 曠野(광야)에서부터 ^ㅛ하맛 어귀 ^ㅜ르홉에 이르렀고

또 南方(남방)으로 올라가서 ^ㅠ헤브론에 이르렀으니 헤브론은 애굽 ^으소안보다 七年(칠년) 前(전)에 세운 곳이라 그곳에 아낙 ^이子孫(자손) ^ㅐ아히만과 세새와 달매가 있었더라

또 ^ㄱ에스골 골짜기에 이르러 거기서 葡萄(포도) 한 송이 달린 가지를 베어 둘이 막대기에 꿰어 메고 또 石榴(석류)와 無花果(무화과)를 取(취)하니라

이스라엘 子孫(자손)이 거기서 葡萄(포도)송이를 벤 故(고)로 그곳을 에스골 골짜기라 稱(칭)하였더라

四十日(사십일) 동안에 땅을 探知(탐지)하기를 마치고 돌아와

Sie gingen hinauf und erkundeten das Land von der Wüste Zin bis gen "Rehob," da man gen Hamath geht.

Sie gingen auch hinauf ins Mittagsland und kamen bis gen Hebron; da waren "Ahiman," Sesai und "Thalmai," die Kinder Enaks. Hebron aber war sieben Jahre gebaut vor Zoan in Ägypten.

Und sie kamen bis an den Bach Eskol und schnitten daselbst eine Rebe ab mit einer Weintraube und ließen sie zwei auf einem Stecken "tragen," dazu auch Granatäpfel und Feigen.

Der Ort heißt Bach Eskol um der Traube "willen," die die Kinder Israel daselbst abschnitten.

Und sie kehrten "um," als sie das Land erkundet "hatten," nach vierzig "Tagen,"

So they went up and explored the land from the Desert of Zin as far as Rehob, toward Lebo Hamath.

They went up through the Negev and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, lived. (Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

When they reached the Valley of Eshcol, they cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates and figs.

That place was called the Valley of Eshcol because of the cluster of grapes the Israelites cut off there.

At the end of forty days they returned from exploring the land.

바란 曠野(광야) ^ㄴ가데스에 이르러 모세와 아론과 이스라엘 子孫(자손)의 온 會衆(회중)에게 나아와 그들에게 回報(회보)하고 그 땅 實果(실과)를 보이고

모세에게 報告(보고)하여 가로되 當身(당신)이 우리를 보낸 땅에 간즉 果然(과연) ^ㄷ젖과 꿀이 그 땅에 흐르고 ^ㄹ이것은 그 땅의 實果(실과)니이다

^ㅁ그러나 그 땅 居民(거민)은 强(강)하고 城邑(성읍)은 堅固(견고)하고 甚(심)히 클 뿐 아니라 거기서 아낙 子孫(자손)을 보았으며

^ㅂ아말렉人(인)은 南方(남방) 땅에 居(거)하고 헷人(인)과, 여부스人(인)과, 아모리人(인)은 山地(산지)에 居(거)하고 ^ㅅ가나안人(인)은 海邊(해변)과 요단 가에 居(거)하더이다

^ㅇ갈렙이 모세 앞에서 百姓(백성)을 安頓(안돈)시켜 가로되 우리가 곧 올라가서 그 땅을 取(취)하자 能(능)히 이기리라 하나

gingen hin und kamen zu Mose und Aaron und zu der ganzen Gemeinde der Kinder Israel in die Wüste Pharan gen Kades und sagten ihnen wieder und der ganzen "Gemeinde," wie es "stände," und ließen sie die Früchte des Landes sehen.

Und erzählten ihnen und sprachen: Wir sind in das Land "gekommen," dahin ihr uns "sandtet," darin Milch und Honig "fließt," und dies ist seine Frucht;

nur, daß starkes Volk darin wohnt und sehr große und feste Städte sind; und wir sahen auch Enaks Kinder daselbst.

So wohnen die Amalekiter im Lande gegen "Mittag," die Hethiter und Jebusiter und Amoriter wohnen auf dem "Gebirge," die Kanaaniter aber wohnen am Meer und um den Jordan.

Kaleb aber stillte das Volk gegen Mose und sprach: Laßt uns hinaufziehen und das Land einnehmen; denn wir können es überwältigen.

They came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. There they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land.

They gave Moses this account: "We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit.

But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there.

The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan."

Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, "We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it."

^ㅈ그와 함께 올라갔던 사람들은 가로되 우리는 能(능)히 올라가서 그 百姓(백성)을 치지 못하리라 그들은 우리보다 强(강)하니라 하고

이스라엘 子孫(자손) 앞에서 ^ㅊ그 探知(탐지)한 땅을 惡評(악평)하여 가로되 우리가 두루 다니며 探知(탐지)한 땅은 그 居民(거민)을 삼키는 땅이요 거기서 본 ^ㅋ모든 百姓(백성)은 身長(신장)이 長大(장대)한 者(자)들이며

거기서 또 ^ㅌ네피림 後孫(후손) 아낙 子孫(자손) 大丈夫(대장부)들을 보았나니 우리는 스스로 보기에도 ^ㅍ메뚜기 같으니 그들의 보기에도 그와 같았을 것이니라

Aber die "Männer," die mit ihm waren "hinaufgezogen," sprachen: Wir vermögen nicht hinaufzuziehen gegen das Volk; denn sie sind uns zu "stark,"

und machten dem "Lande," das sie erkundet "hatten," ein böses Geschrei unter den Kindern Israel und sprachen: Das "Land," dadurch wir gegangen "sind," es zu "erkunden," frißt seine "Einwohner," und alles "Volk," das wir darin "sahen," sind Leute von großer Länge. {~}

Wir sahen auch Riesen "daselbst," Enaks Kinder von den Riesen; und wir waren vor unsern Augen wie "Heuschrecken," und also waren wir auch vor ihren Augen.

But the men who had gone up with him said, "We can't attack those people; they are stronger than we are."

And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, "The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size.

We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them."
